nv4 display driver not working

  dugit 14:35 11 Jan 2008

I have Packard Bell intel pentium 4 2.8 GHz.
My computer has recently stated doing odd things:
1. Freezing, I have to switch computer off.
2. On start up all seems to be ok then the screen goes blank and the computer starts off again on its own.
3. Screen comes up with your nv4 display driver has stopped working properly.

I have gone into safe mode/networking then downloaded latest NVIDIA driver for XP (43.8 MB) , uninstalled NVIDIA listed under Device Manager. Then installed the NVIDIA driver I had downloaded which seemed to be happening but it then came up with:
"The NVIDIA set up program could not locate any drivers that are compatable with your current hardware, set up will now exit"

I'm lost what to do next any suggestions please?

Stick to Forceware 93.71 if you have Geforce 2, 3 or 4 graphics. Use buteman's link and select `Legacy`.

Disconnect from internet and disable your antivirus software temporarily during installation.

Brundle:Apologies for ignorance but what does "use butemans link and select legacy" mean as I have Ge force 4?
