What operating system are you using? I get a similar problem at work if I start the computer and have forgotten to take the floppy out of the A drive from the night before.

Paul.

Take it you haven't left a non-bootable disk in your floppy drive. If you have take it out and reboot. If you haven't then the upgrade has failed and you will need to reinstall xp. Boot from the CD at the first prompt press enter as if doing a new install. At the second prompt press 'R'. This will do a repair (which is essentially a reinstall of XP but keeping all your file system intact).

I'm not sure about XP, but it sounds like the operating system is not being recognised, was it working OK or is this a first time run?
