NTL Broadband keeps hanging!

Recently installed NTL broadband through a cable modem. Works nicely for only some of the time. Frequently the connection will hang after surfing for a while. NTL help said it was due to low system resources which should be at least 85% to run broadband. Mine dip below 80% even when everything apart from the firewall and virus protection are switched off. NTL reckon there is a fault with my PC and suggest upgrading from Windows Me to 2000! My PC spec is 1GHz processor, 128Mb RAM & load of hard disc space.

Any ideas?

if you have connected the modem via usb that may be your problem. if you have an ethernet card then use that. there ahs been problems with usb connection with the cable modems.
