ntl 2 pc's 1 cable

  CiderBob 19:29 19 Nov 2006

I have 2 laptops but 1 cable for my broadband. If I switch laptops, I have to reboot the moded. NTL say this is the ony way around not having a router. Any suggestions to a simple fix so I can just swap laptops without a reboot?

Microsoft Internet Connection Sharing will do what you need.

What make and model is the modem? Does it have an ethernet connector (RJ45 - Yellow Cable usually) and a USB connection as well? I`m not sure though if you can connect by both means at the same time - a router is probably the only way to do it as they say.

Unless someone can talk you through fixed IP addresses for the computers.

I have an ethernet connetion and I could use a wi fi router but would never use it as I only use the computer in the office room. It's just that my wife uses the net on her laptop mostly and I sometimes connect with my laptop.....a router seems the only way then.
