Notepad replacement

I currently use CryptEdit and it's perfect. Handles txt, rtf and many doc files. However, the parent, Polyedit, is being upgraded and Crypt Edit has disappeared along the way. I am considering supported alternatives, but most of these, e.g. NoteTab, insist on supporting programming aids that I don't want or use and find distracting. Are there any ones you like?
