Notepad - any way of Counting Words & Characters

When I place adverts I usually write the text into a Notepad file first. Then I just have to Copy and Paste the info into the Advert's web form.

Some Advertising sites limit me to 2000 words or 1000 characters in the advert. I frequently get told that I have exceeded the limit, I click the Back button on the browser and the form is totally blank and I have to re-enter all the fields again.

Is there any way of enhancing Notepad so that it can count the number of words / characters that I highlight with the mouse?

Or should I download an alternative Notepad program?

Do you have Word?

The free Xint with word count, click here would do?

Or, even the free online SpellCheck click here, with instant word & character count. G

Thanks everyone. I have spent some time trying out each program and have decided to go with Xint for my needs.
