On many notebooks the volume control is a `wheel` on the side of the case. You could either look at the manual or go online to locate it. Or if you identify the unit perhaps someone here has one and will be able to advise you.

I have looked for such a wheel but no luck. The product is an HP Essentials G60-114EA. I am new to laptops. I have now also sent an email to HP and awaiting a reply.I found no indication in the manual.

This is what HP support said:- there are no such buttons on the keyboard to control the volume in your notebook. You can control the volume by using the hot keys on the keyboard.

Press FN++ to increase the volume and press FN+- to decrease the volume
Well, now we know.

Fairly impressive response time from HP Support - and on New Year's Day as well
