Not quite wireless yet!

I've just connected a new linksys wireless-G router and adapter. Unfortunately when I disconnect my laptop from the mains so that I can be totally wireless my adapter stops working! Am I being stupid or is there something a little crazy going on here!?

Thanks or the speedy reply.

if you start the laptop on its battery - presumably everything works OK?

Check in Control Panel's "Power Options". Some laptops have a default setting which disables WiFi if mains power is not present.

No I've tried starting it on it's battery and it still doesn't work. I'll try the power settings.

Thanks mgmcc, your suggestion has worked :)

It would have been better to have started a new discussion as your question is unrelated to this one.

In answer to the question though, if you have NTL's "Cable" broadband service a combined "Router/ADSL Modem" is not suitable, you need a "stand-alone" router, usually described as a Cable/DSL router.
