Not often I ask an Excel Question

I'm sure I've done this before but just can't remember how.

I've created a pivot table where I have a date field along one of the table axis.

So I end up with hundreds of entries one for each date.

I thought there was a way to automatically group the dates by year or by year and month, but I can't find it.

Any ideas?

I don't use pivot tables so this may be totally wrong! This is for Excel 2003.

Click on a date. On the Pivot Table toolbar click on PivotTable, then on Group and Show Detail, then on Group.

Thanks, you are right and that was what I was doing, I just found some blank rown in my data table that were stopping the grouping from working.

Sorted now.
