Try System Restore first,if no back with the spec of your system and OS please.

If system restore doesn't work
From the Start menu, select Run.
In the Open field, type sfc /scannow (Note: There is a space between sfc and /scannow)
Select the OK button.
Follow the prompts throughout the System File Checker process.
Reboot the computer when System File Checker completes.
You will need your XP CD

Did you try system restore ?

Try this:

Start/My Computer/Right click Local disc C/

Now complete the Defrag and Error Checking.

Does this help ?
