  macca40 12:12 16 Mar 2003

Just installed Norton Systemworks 2003 and upgraded Norton Internet Security from 2001 to 2003.Now my broadband NTL 600k seems to have slowed down.

Sites take longer to accesses/load and were pictures should be there’s red crosses.
Anybody got a solution

Thanks macca

i have ntl 600K too... i have noticed it usually comes in at 540K now... (used to be at least 619K)

just ran it and it came out as 505K not good i know. disabled norton firewall and it still came out as 505K...

although i've just read you mentioned systemworks which i have also. hmm...

try disable system works or telling it not to luanch on start up and run tests again. see what happens. i'm off to try it now.

Just tried speed test with both enabled (544k)
can't think what slowing it down could it be Internet Explorer

Interesting. I have ntl 600k broadband on a home network. Seems to run faster on the laptop (PC-Cillin AV and Firewall) than on the desktop with Norton Firewall and systemworks. Worth investigating further.
By the way, how are you testing the speed of your connections?

Using this for speed test.

using NTL 600K BB via 10/100 not USB with Norton AV and FW. Test result of 68KB/s (544kb/s) seeing as its sunday afternoon i think that isnt bad.

I've got Norton SW 2002 + ZA set to high + NTL 600k, I've just run the test on the link given by macca40 and from bandwith place for comparison:
connection-584Kb/s + lots of positive comment on other aspects of the test. From Bandwidth Place 548Kb/s my PC is one of two connected via router and runs IE5. Results from all posts seem to be roughly in the same area.

Thanks for the link. Really useful. It gave a good response on the non Norton setup. Will try it on the other soon.
