My Norton AV is coming to an end and I want to replace it with either AVG or Avast. Looking at the forum on Norton it is sometime since anyone has raised this.
Question...Are either of the above better than Norton,where to download them,is there a better AV and how to remove Norton,given that everyone seems to have problems removing it.
What is the best method to protect oneself when performing the above

removal with their own tool click here
many people use either Avast or AVG and are more than happy (personally prefer Avast - fit and forget!)

If you mean does Avast and AVG protect you, intercept more malware, than Norton then the answer is no.

You will hear all sorts of comments like "AVG founf xxxx nad Norton did not" etc. However Norton has one of the best AV engines out there especially the 2007 and 2008 versions.

I use Avast but behind a router and with GeSWall.For me that works well.

Hi, You will also need a firewall here is one to consider

Comodo Pro Firewall {FREE}

click here

If its any help I use Avast and Comodo firewall and they work very good,

Download and SAVE them to your documents or anywhere else to your liking; then download the Norton removal tool and run it,

Then install Avast and Comodo
