Norton Personal Firewall

Since downloading latest updates two days ago, Norton won't allow web or mail access. All settings seem the same. Disabling Norton and downloading & using ZoneAlarm instead restores web & mail.

No response from Symmantec but Firewall has been ok till now since renewal in Feb.

Any ideas?

This is assuming you use IE as your browser & OE as your email client (if you use others do the same for them as well):

1. Open NPF. 2. Click on Personal Firewall -> Configure -> Program Control. 3. Click on all the 'Iexplore' entires & click on Modify. 4. In the dialogue box, select Permit & click on OK. 5. Do the same for the Microsoft Outlook Express entry & select 'Automatically configure...' & click on OK. 6. Close NPF & check to see if the problem recurs.

Try this (if the above doesn't work) click here. It's to restore your Internet access. If your email access is still affected post back.

BTW, which OS are you using? If you have System Restore to could try going back to a time before the updates. I'm NOT sure if this is recommended in such a situation so it will be best for someone else to confirm this before you attemp it. But good luck with the rest! G

Follow Crosbow's advice up until restore point, by doing this Norton can think it's being attacked by virus and can give error message 100.001 which mean it does'nt understand why it is being changed and cause big problems..........

Many thanks Crossbow7 and Rikimalone. I did , prior to readig your advice try a system restore and that worked for a bit. Eventual solution was to uninstall Norton and replace with Zone Alarm. Also had to reinstall Logitec keyboard, Creative sound card and ADSL modem. OK now for about 30 hours.
