Norton Internet Security update failed

Over the last couple of days I have tried to update my Norton Internet Security 2006 but when it comes to update the Symantic Security Software Update (1551kb) I get a message saying "a programme that was part of this update failed when it ran, the update was not applied"
From the symantic website it appears that I may need to remove and reinstall the programme. Any suggestions to avoid having to do this please? I am using windows xp pro with sp2 and everything on my computer is up to date otherwise. Many thanks

And select the option you think will help, why not try all of them.

Thank you Lettervanman for your reply. The checks from Symantec said they could find nothing wrong, so in the end I removed and immediately reinstalled NIS 2006 as they suggested and everything is now working ok (fingers crossed). Have always used Norton but think this will be the last time!
