Norton Internet Security blocks my emails

Following the latest update from Norton Internet Security (on Thursday night), I now cannot connect to my email server either to send or receive emails (I use Outlook Express). I just get a message saying the connection timed out. My only solution is to disable NIS and then connect to my email server. I can then send and receive as normal. How do I amend the settings in NIS so I can send and receive emails without disabling NIS?
I have windows XP and SP2

Open NIS, and go to Personal Firewall, and then Click configure, Add OE to allow mail in and out.

Are you also using the Microsoft firewall, as there can be a problem with both working.

Thanks to all. I read through the Thread with mounting horror! I had Norton Internet Security 2005 - for which support expired yesterday - but was given NIS 2006 for Christmas. So I uninstalled NIS 2005 and installed NIS 2006 - and, touch wood, emailing is now back to normal. Many thanks for all your help though.
