Norton Internet Security 2008 to 2009 update

Bought NIS 2009 (disc for 3 users) and successfully installed it on mu Visat SP1 machine. As part of the install it recognises that there is an old version (2008) and uninstalls it.
However, when I tried to carry out the same thing on my daughter's XPSP3 machine, it recognised NIS 2008 and started to uninstall it. It got stuck so far through (CPU on 100% machine locked etc.) On retrying it keeps getting stuck in the same place and the only way out is to unplug!! The stand alone Norton uninstall utility also "hangs" so far through. So, we have NIS 2008 half on (and non working) which we can't remove and we can't get NIS 2009 on. I have been on to Norton's web talk thing and have been through several try this, try that...and been timed out (1 hour) twice. So, still stuck. Any ideas folks?

Can you remove it in safe mode.Or you may have to download it again and make sure it is not running before you uninstall it again.
