Norton - Conflicts with others

  swapper 07:42 08 May 2004

My friend has just bought a new PC with Nortons Antivirus installed.
I have advised him to update it straight away.
I would also like advise him to install, Historykill, Zone Alarm, Spyware Blaster,Ad-aware and Spybot.

I use all of these, but not Nortons. and have not had a problem with any of them.
Have I gone OTT?
Is my advise sound? or would there be conflicts with Nortons.

I've used spybot, spywareblaster, ZA, adaware along with Norton AV with no problems in the past.

is that two Antivirus programs can cause conflicts. If he uses the Norton Antivirus he has, how long does he qualify for free updates? Without updates, any antivirus is next to useless.

If he has to pay for updates it would make sense to uninstall Norton and install AVG or Avast. Norton is said to be the best but that is only ture if he can afford to keep it up to date.

I use NAV with Spybot, Spywareblaster and Adaware. No problems. If your friend's PC came with NAV already installed it might be a limited-period trial. Might not be eligible for updates.

I have told my friend to seek other advice, I dont want to be responsible for a crash or anything, but personally, I just do not get on with Nortons.
Thanks for the info anyway.
