Northbridge cooling fan - really necessary ?

I have a VERY load MSI AGP fan sitting above the Northbridge on my MSI K7N2 motherboard. I have heard that fans on NB's are not really necessary, so I'm considering removing it - is the advice correct, should a NB always have fan, and if I decide to replace rather than remove which fan would you recommend I use for quiet operation.

Thanks

click here You shouldn't simply go without, but you can go passive, silent and definitively reliable.
