Non-system disc error (floppy)

Right, fairly long-winded story to get to the main bit....:)

I was given a very old Dell Optiplex GX200 to gut/mess-about with and have been doing so with some weird degree of glee (wi-fi, soundcard, memory all must be worth at least a few pence by now!!).

I formatted the HD and loaded up Linux Mint (which runs really well on it) the science bit...I checked the Dell website to see if there was a bios update, there was! I downloaded it put it on a floppy and....nothing but the "Non-system disc" error.

The update is "supposed" to run from the floppy but so far no joy, just the error message.

Any help appreciated

Are you perhaps supposed to boot the PC with a "boot floppy" first and then run the BIOS update from the A:\> DOS prompt?

Thanks for the replies....It was indeed a boot floppy/cd that was needed.

I downloaded the program from here -

and it worked a treat.
