Noisy line when router is on.

  ferrispedro 16:04 01 Feb 2011

I lost my internet connection for a week while AOL (yes I know!) faffed about.Since I got it back there is a lot of noise on the line which disappears when the router (Speedtouch 580)is turned off. I have tried other routers and the noise still appears.Has anyone came across this problem before? TIA, Peter. Ps BT say the line tests ok.

Have you got a microfiber fitted to every phone socket which has a phone/fax/Sky box plugged into it?

Sounds like a dodgy filter , try replacing it/them

Unplug some devices and swap the filters about by doing a trial and error test. That should pick up the problem if its a faulty filter.

You could also try BT Quiet Line Test Dial 17070 and listen for any noise.
I had a similar problem about 3 years ago and it turned out to be a bad connection between the local exchange and my house.
(A bad filter is more likely)
