noisy fan start.

The fan in my PC starts noisily. Some article I read ( and misplaced) suggested a drop of oil under the centre cover label would do the trick.
Is this OK?

Some motherboards do a fan test on start up, if it sounds like it is at full speed for a few seconds this is why.

It can help but you need very light oil.

Some HP computers boot with the fan up full but it should quieten in a few seconds.Sewing machine oil is as thick as you want to go or clock oil would be better.
