No words displayed only meaningless symbols

Help! For some time my computer has been displaying symbols instead of words right from the log-on page. This makes it impossible to read anything including icon names and dropdown menu's. I am typing this now and the text is normal but when I typed in the Title box only symbols are displayed. Icopied this line into message area and the sentence appears normally. Pasteing it back into the title area it reverts back to symbols. Looking at this PC advisor web page all the display is correct except for the 'send buttons' on the page including the search button (these contain symbols) and all the text in the ms ie tool bars including address bar. System restore has corrected this in the past but now will not restore.Thanks.

Download TweakUI click here and run it.

In the left hand pane click on Repair then in the right hand pane select Repair Font Folder.

Immediately before it happened, did you run an old copy of System Mechanic? - Some earlier versions have a bug that under certain circumstances can cause such a problem - it's fixed in current versions.

If you can get to their web page click here it tells you waht to do. Or you can try restoring the changes it made.

Has Vog's suggestion worked for you?

Tell us more about your computer. Has it a RAID/ATA harddrive set up for example?

Just to be clear - is it only on web pages - and are you using Internet Explorer?

Can you try in MSWord or similar, typing in using Tahoma font, in normal, and in bold, and also the same with Arial font, and report the results please
