no wireless connection

On holiday in Sydney with my trusty Netbook (XP). No problems connecting wirelessly in airport lounges or wifi hotspots in cafes. When I try to connect to my son’s network however, netbook sees the network, strong signal, accepts password then hangs ‘acquiring IP address’. And finally ‘cannot connect – contact the network administrator’ (or words to that effect). Any bright ideas, please?

Well I googled this problem and it seems common but with no definite fix :(

Have you tried command prompt,
ipconfig /release

and
ipconfig /renew

Try asking this question in the 'Networking' Forum.

Thanks all - I try the suggestions next time I'm there. Currently sitting at a street cafe having b'fast with blue sky and 25 degrees! Hard life.

Could be a firewall problem.
