No Strand By/Hibernate

  jack 12:45 27 Sep 2010

Having done some work on a machine that I am in the process of setting up with XP Home.
It was time to move on -
So I thought Hibernate- then I can come back where I left off.
Clicked on Start/Closedown and the Usual three buttons came up
Stand By- Shut Down-Restart

But this time the Standby/Hibernate button was greyed out.
Never come across that before
How come?
Is it something sinister?

Maybe go back into power options and see if any problems on there.

As above check Control Panel/Power Options last Tab on the right and one of the other tabs

This machine - the one I am writing this on is XP Pro- In the power settings it has a Hibernate tab
and the close down panel come up as a drop down menu with all the options.

The machine in question is an OEM XP Home and comes up with the normal three button display.
I am quite sure during the installing process every time the shut down panel came up for a restart the Standby/Hibernate button was active.
Now it is not it is greyed out so shut down or restart are the only options.
The power tab shows 3 tabs - Schemes Advanced and UPS no options for standby/hibernate at all.

Is this a Desktop? if it is make sure in power setting it as such. Also check BIOS for shut down options

This can happen when your graphics card needs updating.

Sorry - meant to say graphics card driver needs updating

Am looking now - so far only Bum steers
Will wait now until the machine is installed in its new home.
Actually- knowing the user[my daughter]
No standby/Hibernate may be no bad thing .
See what else happens regard- printer and other stuff before pursuing further.
