No Sounds at Logon or Logoff

  Edenry 19:15 16 Jan 2004

A variation of this has cropped up before, but I can get all the sounds to play once I am in Windows XP. However, nothing is heard at Logon or Logoff. Very strange! The system is not on a Network - it's just me as the Administrator.
Any ideas please.

Control Panel, Sounds and Audio devices, Sounds tab.

Make sure sounds are associated with Start Windows and Exit Windows.

Yep, I had tried that and reset the Sounds to Windows Default. All the sounds including Exit Windows & Start Windows play ok within Windows & Control Panel Sounds.
Maybe something in the Registry?

If you are using TweakUI go to the General section and check "Beep on Errors".

things to check.

Control Panel, Sounds and Audio Device

and check that your mixer is set to your sound card and nothing else.

Startup Sounds are missing:

TweakUI/General/Beep on errors (verify that the box is checked).

System Sounds are missing:

If you are comfortable with editing the registry, run regedit and navigate to
HKEY_CURRENT_USER, if the (Default) is blank in the "Data" column, right-click
and delete the entry. XP will immediately rebuild it with the correct value
"Value not set". Also check HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21 for the same condition.

TweakUI - Tried it.
click here - Nearly got caught into subscription! (Nice try Stuartli?)
Audio Device Properties mixer - Checked it, OK.
TweakUi again - DDouble checked, OK .
Regedit - checked it. Also found some good info at click here. There were two files from there I tried: <restoresounds.reg> & <valuenotset.reg> - No luck with that I'm afraid.
Or fixing the Ding.
Sorry Guys - they all failed.
It's hardly a major problem, but a weird one.
Thanks for your efforts.
