Control Panel, Sounds and Audio Device Properties.
and check that your mixer is set to your sound card and nothing else.

If you are comfortable with editing the registry, run regedit and navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER, if the (Default) is blank in the "Data" column, right-click and delete the entry. TweakUI - Tried it. click here - Nearly got caught into subscription! (Nice try Stuartli?) Audio Device Properties mixer - Checked it, OK. TweakUi again - DDouble checked, OK . Regedit - checked it. Also found some good info at click here. There were two files from there I tried: <restoresounds.reg> & <valuenotset.reg> - No luck with that I'm afraid. Or fixing the Ding. Sorry Guys - they all failed. It's hardly a major problem, but a weird one. Thanks for your efforts.
