No sound when playing CDs-Windows Media Player

When playing CDs with Windows Media Player, the screen shows the music playing but I cannot get any sound. Have checked all settings but cannot identify the problem.

Do you use an audio cable from the CD drive to the sound card/onboard sound?

If not, check in Device Manager>highlight the drive>Properties>Properties tab>that the Digital Playback box is ticked.

Also worth checking from WMP's Tools>Options>Devices tab>highlight the drive>Properties> that Digital Playback and Record are Enabled.
