Speakers not muted and have sound in pinnacle studio9, also when booting and shutting down. Have tried system restore to 6 days ago (last known to be working ok) to no avail. Can anyone help please?

It's a long shot, but I had a sound problem plaguing me for months which I thankfully sorted by following the fix given in the posting of Maaster Aug 12 2006 11:40 on link below:

No idea why it worked, but it did and troublefree ever since.

Make sure you do all the steps, check/uncheck etc as stated.

I have all system sounds, just not getting audio when playing cd's and dvd's. Have checked hardware and there are no "exclamation marks" against anything. Any more ideas?

I know you stated speakers are not muted - but, have you checked in WMP that the sound is not muted there - the speaker icon near the volume control in WMP.

Thanks Technotiger, you're a star*****. It wasn't obvious to me that it had been muted! Thanks again.
