no sound from speakers laptop

hey i have an issue with my laptop internal speakers
i have a mitac 8640 same as Packard bell 8640 evesham and others

i have the correct drivers but all i get is a very quiet sound when say playing a .mp3 or a .avi file i have the correct codec's ect ect iv plugged the laptop into external speakers (ones with no external volume control) and its still very quiet any ideas?

Lap top sound is almost always crap. Have you tried plugging a headset in, and what's like then? If its OK then try a pair of dedicated outboard mini Lap Top speakers (take it to the shop and ask if you can try them).

So you have external speakers,plugged them into mains and turned them on,and checked the volume setting in your taskbar,is that correrct?And turned volume up on speakers?

There may be several volume devices that need to be turned up.

1. Hardware, on the laptop normally a rocker switch type, very close to where the headphone socket is located.

2. Software, Start - settings - control panel - Sounds and Audio - look at the Volume tab - device volume + speaker volume and the Audio tab - volume control.
