my windows xp media player decided for the first time in its life to download a codec it needed , now i have no sound from webpages.

i've tried the usual stuff ie: re installing sound drivers and codecs and all that kind of stuff.

i get sound through media player and pretty much any other media player but just nothing on web pages at all

Try doing a system restore to a point before the download took place.

i did a search on google and the only answer i could find is reinstall xp , i dont really want to do that .

there must be a solution to this problem

Why not try a Repair XP?

for details and to save me typing it out.

Your applications, programs, configuration etc should be unaffected although, to be certain, worth doing a backup.

You will need the Product Key at some point during the Repair (DON'T use the Recovery Console choice).
