No sound, Drivers not recognised

I have a rather annoying issue with the sound on my computer. A few days ago we had a new harddrive installed to replace the last one. Unfortunately since the fresh hard drive there appears to be no audio drivers recognised.

When i look in device manager my sound drivers are not listed, instead there are two exclimation marks in the "other devices tab"
! Multi media controllor
! PCI simple communications controllor

Obviously i assumed that i simply needed to reinstall the drivers. I accessed the medion site and downloaded the drivers specific to my serial number, installed and restarted and still nothing. I Even reinstalled the mother board drivers and still, no sound device recognised and the same exclimation marks in device manager.

HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!

Medion for drivers; click here
if no luck
SIS (your SIS chipset is 648) - use their ID guide to be sure; click here

SIS 7012 matches many products including 648 (click here) , easily located on the SiS site.

Here is the driver for your graphics card:

Unfortunatley your sound device is not listed in your post for me to be able to direct you to the correct downlod site. Is it onboard sound or do you have a soundcard?

  JoeQuake 17:03 22 Mar 2008

Ive already downloaded the drivers from the medion site that match my Serial.

Forgive my ignorance but what is SIS?

Thanks for your replys

Joe

This is the exact problem mate. My pc does not recognise, or list or know anything about the sound device thats in there. Im sure its a AC97, ive downloaded the drivers from the offical site from my PCS serial, still nothing but yellow exclamation marks!

I note a lot of trial versions in your listing the Multi Media could refer to any media device such as TV Card

Check in BIOS to ensure onboard sound is enabled.

Then deleat the two items in device manager

and reboot to see what happens.

If neither solves the problem try BIOS select fail safe defaults and save before exiting

SiS - Silicon Integrated Systems, makers of the chipset, integrated audio.

Was the hard-drive replaced and XP installed afresh?
Go to add/remove progams and remove the chipset drivers, then boot in safe mode (hit F8 repeatedly at start up) and look at device manager - if there are duplicate entries for the problem devices delete them. Reboot, disconnect from the 'net and disable your anti-virus software, install drivers.

I just ran the SIS test.

This is what i got for audio

"Audio Not SiS Audio device. Provided by board maker. "

just for referance with new HD you will have lost the ability to restore to factory settings, Nameley because retten has been removed.

You should however have your support and application CD which normally gets used to restore the system in conjuction with the Retten Exc.

On that CD are all the drivers used on your system
