No Sound After System Recovery

  Big Trev 21:14 04 Nov 2009

PC had a near death experience last night. Performed a recovery, which backed everything up.
Working now, but can't get any sound. It isn't muted. All cables are plugged in.

Any ideas?

Reinstall the audio driver

That had ocurred to me. The problem is I have had several sound cards over the years and the only disc I have lying around doesn't work.

How do I identify my sound card so I can download a driver?

is it listed in device manager?

Download Device Doctor 1.0

"Freeware Windows utility that automatically updates hardware drivers."

Device Doctor Windows application that scans your Computer Hardware and checks to see if

there are new driver updates available for your devices.

I downloaded Device Doctor but one of the drivers it downloaded was corrupted and I can't find an alternative.
I went through all the devices with a little speaker next to them in Device Manager and updated the drivers. Still no sound.

I've just reinstalled the operating system. Does anybody know where I can download an uncorrupted copy of AUD_allOS_6033.2_PV_IDTGUI_v124.exe ?
