No sound

I have a desktop which I formatted and loaded XP Home onto, and activated it. The motherboard is a WinFast 760GXK8MC, Socket 754.
I downloaded all the motherboard drivers from here:

Everything works fine, except for the sound - there is none. The device manager tells me all is fine; there are no yellow question marks or exclamation marks. But under Control Panel/Sounds and Audio Devices and then the Volume tab, everything is greyed out.

If I try to play a sound in the Sounds tab I get the message "Windows cannot playe the sound %SystemRoot%.... Your sound card may be in use."

Any ideas please? Thank you.

Yes, that's the one I've been trying but it just doesn't work.

Tried that - there's nothing loaded on the computer but XP Home (from a genuine original disc of course) and Service Pack 3.

Although Device Manager shows you all is fine I suggest you uninstall the sound driver which is showing there - then reboot - windows should then pick up the driver that you have downloaded and install.

Tried that - still no good.
