Having reinstalled XP by means of the recovery disk I now find that I have no Audio Device installed. I do have Aultec Lansing speaker system - could it be that I need a driver for them please.

You probably have onboard sound - you will need to find out which chipset is used (most likely Realtek or C-Media) and download the latest driver from the appropriate website.

What is the make and model of your system?

Spot on - it is Realtek - thanks for reminding me. I'll try their website now

Stuartli:

OK now, found what I needed, installed and then near deafened me when rebooting!

Thanks - what would I do if it were not for the good people on this forum?
