Presumably you still have the original Utilities CDs which came with the PC?

If so, one of those CDs will contain the drivers for your sound card. Install them from there

As per Jackcoms or:

Check device manager for any yellow exclaimation marks. If so right click and uninstall and reboot, hopefully xp will find the hardware and install the drivers.
Windows key+Pausebreak/Hardware/Device manager.

If you have a pci sound card fitted, run Belarc click here and look under multimedia and post back the details and we can try to find the correct driver for you.

Is it something simple such as sound being muted in Volume Control?

Find the Volume Control icon in the task bar (loudspeaker symbol). Right click and select 'Open Volume Control'.

Check that nothing is muted..

Again as Jackcoms says and did you run Belarc ?

Does device manager show any Exclaimation marks ?

"no software installed for my sound card where can i get the software?"

I've already told you in my post of 15:08.

Or if you now the make/model of your sound card, go the the manufacturer's website and download from there.
