no recognition of DVD

My PC has lost my dvd player and writer.No sign of them in My Computer either.When I try to play a cd
nothing happens

More than likely the ribbon cable has just worked itself loose and will need refitted.

its under winxp tips restore cd/dvd drives to explorer if you have xp that is

first do a visual check that the cables are inserted into the back of the devices and onto the mother board

go to my computer
right click now click properties==click hardware then device manager
check the dvd/cdrom devices press the + icon to show if they are there if they show up, right click on the device click disable then uninstall do this with both devices then reboot they should both be detected on reboot

if nothing shows up try
start==settings==control panel==add hardware
