No D Drive

I am running a Dell computer with Wondows XP. For no apparent reason I no longer have a 'D' drive, whih is extremely frustrating!

My device manager shows that I have an external hard drive connected as well as 4 other USB drive for SD cards etc and these are shown as E, F, G, H and K but no D.

IS this a hard drive or a DVD drive?

I have had the missing drive problem frequently and find it to be a poor connection. To solve it I usually disconnect the power cable and the ribbon cable then reconnect them both and this usually solves the poor connection. The alternative is to replace the ribon cable.

Do you have a card reader connected to your computer? this would explain the mutiple drive letters.

Other that this info I can't help without looking at the computer in person.

My D drive (CD/DVD ROM)does not show in explorer unless there is media in in the drive tray. I just live with it.

the drive is a CD/DVD writer

Try the fix to "Restore CD/DVD in Explorer" at Kellys-Korner click here Line 399 Right column.

Are you perhaps using Windows 7 with the option selected to "Hide empty drives in the Computer folder"?

[Tools > Folder Options > View tab]
