My PC has been switching off by itself and restarting. then yesterday i switched it on. No screen activity, power light on mb. power light on pc. no boot light activity. could this be a fault with the cpu power supply.

Not really enough information but it could be overheating.

Check the Heatsink for the processor.

cpu fan and pc fan working ok

cd drive and hdd light on, on initial boot then no further indication of boot. no screen activity to get to the bios, that why i thought it was the 4 pin psu to the cpu.

It still could be an over heating problem.

Check the Heatsink is locked down properly.

I had similar symptoms and one of the feet had not locked down.

Can you try another (known working) power supply? That would be my bet.

If fans and hard drives working (flashing led + noise) but no screen, maybe your monitor no switched on / powered or graphics card / cable problem.

I go with faulty PSU. Lights mean nothing with a PSU. Nor does Fans running

Do you get a ONE post BEEP when you start the Comp? or as it never BEEPED?

Twice with me it's been the motherboard, once the Graphics card and sometimes the CPU fan was spinning but faulty, I think it was telling the mobo it wasn't spinning.
