No Bios Screens On Boot

  gazza38 11:46 05 Sep 2006

For some reason my PC has stopped displaying the bios flash screens on startup.I have not changed anything, it worked fine the day before.
Could the cmos battery be failing ?
The machine is only 20 months old.
The clock doesn't lose time, but then the PC is still plugged in to the mains when I shutdown.
Do I need to replace my motherboard ?
The PC was an Advent T11, but I have upgraded many components with no problems, been running fine for a long time.
The motherbord is an MSI 7046 OEM, what's the retail equivalent ?
The rest of the system -XP SP2, P4 550 (3400),
3x internal HDD's all sata, 2BG DDR 400, 7800 GTX GPU, Antec Neo 550 HE PSU, 2x Pioneer dvd drives (108 + 111 ).

*....stopped displaying the bios flash screens on startup.*

What does it display, in what order? Check the cable to the system is firmly in it's sockets - remove and refit perhaps.

*Could the cmos battery be failing ?*

Failing batteries give different effects to this.

*Do I need to replace my motherboard ?*

Very, very, unlikely to cause this symptom.

Is the system working OK apart from this?

PS - Is the graphics integrated on the motherboard, or a seperate card?

Sorry - just spotted that at the end of your first post.

When I boot only Intel P4 is displayed, after which the PC boots into windows as normal.I get no error messages.

My Medion does exactly the same, no screen showing HDDs and peripherals etc.

has done this from new(March last year)

so I don't thnk its anything to worry about.

In the BIOS there may be a setting covering a "splash screen" - my QDI motherboard has one, so that you see a graphic instead of the text BIOS and POST messages.

You can change the setting, if that's the issue.

I will take a look in the bios and report back.
How could the bios change settings by itself ?
Also I forgot to mention the PC now takes about 3
times longer to boot, and yes fast boot is enabled.Once up and running everything else seems to be fine.

Many Thanks for all the replies.
