New wireless card for laptop

  iqs 21:11 26 Sep 2007

Hi,I have a Compaq laptop,modal C300,XPSP2.

I would like to change the installed Centrino wireless card for a Netgear card.

The reason,my router is 108mbps,and the laptop 54mbps.There is no option in the card properties,or device manager to increase the signal.

I have tried the Compaq web site for assistance, and the usual Goggle search,no luck.Hence this thread.

Can anyone offer advice on how to remove the old card, and how to install and configure the new one please.

According to Belarc this is my current wireless card Intel(R) PRO/wireless 3945ABG.More info can be provided.

Many thanks for your help.Cheers

Dismantling a laptop can be a tricky business. You could just disable the internal wireless card and use a PCMCIA in the slot on the side of the laptop instead click here

again Dipso,

Theres a problem with that option, the laptop has no slot in the side?.Cheers

Oh...slight problem with that then. USB? I know it's got that ;) click here

In any case this will serve as a bump so any laptop dismantlers can offer advice.
