New sound card = Rebootoing PC

  User-7F6FF770-BD4F-47E5-9BA55A2F8E7FDFF9 13:56 11 Oct 2006

I upgraded the sound on my PC from the onboard Realtek chip to a Soundblaster Audigy.

The onboard sound is disabled in the BIOS and the new card is installed and appears to be functioning correctly and the sound works fine in all my games and applications.

However, when I attempt to play any game whilst connected to the internet via 56k modem I experience regular reboots.

This usually happens within seconds of starting ANY game , whether it be an online or offline title.

Basically I am thinking theres some sort of conflict gpoing on between the new soundcard and the modem.

Both appear as functioning correctly in the hardware manager.

Any help would be appreciated.

Try the sound card in a different pci slot, make sure you have the latest drivers from the manufacturers site.

Right click 'my computer' properties/advanced/start up and recoverysettings untick the box to automatically restat on errors, at least you should get an error message now.
