hi... I have a P4 1.8ghz compaq evo system I know it is a bit old but its a good pc. I had 1 x 256 DDR and 1 x 128 DDR memory in it. I bought a new 512 DDR and was planing to use this with the old 256 as an upgrade.. However if i plug the 512 in the bios picks it up, I press F1 to accept the system change.. the computer starts with compaq splash screen then I get windows cant not start as C:/...?system32/config is missing or corrupt. I have tried it with only the 512 DDR in dimm 1 and it will not boot xp-pro. But if i put the old memory back in it boots fine ??? what am i doing wrong. ? many thanks
