My new pc was specified as:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+
ATI Radeon XPRESS 200 CrossFire mainboard
200GB HD

Belarc shows:

2.00 gigahertz AMD Athlon 64
Board: eveshamvale MS-7194 1A
Bus Clock: 200 megahertz
185.69 Gigabytes Usable Hard Drive Capacity
175.44 Gigabytes Hard Drive Free Space

Can these be reconciled?

maybe a second opinion? click here

Cheers ACOLYTE getting that now....

The apparent difference may be to do with how AMDs are named (Intel equivalent speed) and whether GB are calculated using a 1028 factor as opposed to the 1000 that the disk manufacturers use.

For a third opinion click here

Yes, I was aware of the differences in interpretation of hard disk sizes, my os reports hard disk size of only 172GB which seems abysmal! Thanks for all your help VoG.

Belarc is reporting it correctley.

200Gb is the max drive capacity after formating you may lose 10 gig of this maybe more and after installing xp maybe another 5/6 gig.You never actually have the full 200Gb.

OK understood...thanks to all

ps I see Maplins are offering 250GB Seagate external usb2.0 HD for £89.99 may be worth getting!

I'm not sure about the Athlon 64 X2 CPUs, but my Athlon XP 3200+ is, in real terms, a 2.2Ghz CPU using the formula quoted by VoG™ compared to Intel processors.

Thanks Stuartli...
