New PC set-up and data transfer from old pc to new

  Dazed&Confused 06:18 03 Oct 2006

I've bought a new pc without an OS as I already have XP. How do I install it?

Also what's the easiest/best way to transer files from my old pc? I have an ethernet cable. Do I need to network the two pc's and if so how?

To install XP:

Put the XP CD in the drive and start the machine; you will get an option to boot from CD and follow the prompts.

Here is a guide.

As for copying over the data, the easiest thing to do is to use a USB "thumb" drive or burn the data to CD / DVD.
