New PC, freezing

  sneakerman 11:40 12 Aug 2006

I have just built a new PC, (Asus AM2 M/B, AMD 3800 X2 CPU, SATA HD) seems to be working OK, no overheating going on BUT if I insert a DVD/CD like a Linux live or try to install XP, it goes so far and seems to freeze, no more CD/DVD reading and progress halts
Any ideas?

Check IDE cables to rear of drive is correct way round and fully inserted. Also check if fully insert at motherboard.

Check jumpers on all hard drives (if PATA) and all CD/ DVD drives.

Check BIOS for IDE controllers is enabled (would expect so or wouldn't stsrt drives)

All checked, all OK
