New Memory.. Old Board

  dumb_haddock 10:05 01 Feb 2008

I have an AsRock K8NF4G-SATA2 M/B. I have some 800MHz memory left over from another computer, but the board only claims to support 400MHz.

Will the memory work on my board at 400MHz speed, or must i get an 800Mhz board?

Thanks in advance

Each memory slot can hold DDR PC3200,DDR PC2700,DDR PC4000 with a maximum of 1GB per slot. click here

Sorry, bit of a novice to tech terms, how do PC3200, 2700 and 4000 translate into the actual MHz speeds?

Thanks for your help

3200Mhz, 2700Mhz, 4000Mhz,

Theoretically faster memory will revert to the slowest speed, but it is unlikely your board will even recognise the 800MHz memory.

Is your 800MHz the same dimensions as the 400MHz. There have been several types of memory over the years and besides the speed most of them are totally different formats. Fortunately the connector polarisation prevents catastrophic errors. Can you tell us what the other computer - or even better what the motherboard is, then I might be able to identify the memory type.

What are all the code numbers on the 800Mhz memory?

i bought the memory only abt. a month ago and this is the link click here

Your 800M memory is DDR2 240-pin, whereas the motherboard takes DDR 184-pin modules, so they have different connectors. The 800M memory won't fit the motherboard socket.

thanks. i think i may upgrade my board instead.
