First i'd like to say i don't know what i would do without you guys sometimes, you really are very clever, and i appreaciate all help given.

Ok... i have a universal plug and play microsoft sidewinder game controller for my PC which i first had problems getting the PC to recognise.

Now i have a new laptop which isnt recognising the plug and play controller...

so i go into device manager under USB bus Controllers and its not listed, so i try going into game controllers and add one, i look and see microsoft sidewinder plug n play (autodetect) so i try to add it and it sais there was a problem with the port please consult your device manager...???

Can anyone help me out on this please.

problem with the port

Refresh USB Ports
In device manager Uninstall EVERYTHING under the heading USB,
reboot the PC let XP find and install new hardware.
Your equipment should now be recognised.

Start - settings - control panel -system -hardware -device manager - scroll down to USB and click on + to expand - right click each item and select uninstall from the list.

then either click om the action menu to scan for new hardware or rebbot the PC.

Let XP find and install new hardware. This will rfresh all the USB ports.

Are you using Windows 98, this seems to suggest the games pad will only work with 98 based games.
