new hard drive upgrade

  citadel 19:09 11 Mar 2006

I am using xp with sevice pack 2
I have installed a new seagate 160 drive and used the seagate disk wizard to to transfer my data from the old disc.
The new drive is master and has been named DISK2_VOL1 [C]
All seems to be working ok except for a message box after windows loads up that reads,
default skin bitmaps not found,
cannot start application.
anyone know what this refers to.
the old drive is disconnected.

I can't find an exact reference to this message, but "default skin bitmaps not found" sometimes comes up in reference to HP devices. Go to your startup menu (Start - Run - msconfig - Startup) and untick all entries not vital to Windows running. If your computer then starts up without errors you can then begin re-enabling the entries a few at a time until you find the one giving problems.

I have an hp printer maybe its something in that.

Disable any reference to the printer in Startup. If that cures the problem reinstall the driver.

It was the printer, thanks gongoozer for pointing me in the right direction.
