Hi Folks,

I have installed anew hard drive HITACHI Deskstar 3.5. On the Box it has PATA "MB Cache 7200 RPM 40GB.The guy at PC World told me yes it's an IDE Hard Drive.
In IDE HDD Auto Detection it shows up as Primary Slave - Mode - On. It is also showing in Standard CMOS. However its not showing in My Computer. I have XP pro. When I restarted my computer after putting the new Hard Drive XP found a NEW HARDWARE. Ths Installation CD has no Drivers but Installation Instructions. My hard Drive with my Model number does not show There are others there.
Can someone please HELP!!

I have tried out diskmgmt.msc and when I Right click on Disk 1 New Partition is not there instead New Volume. I stopped there.
However,I noticed that this was Noted there - NOTE: This Guide is only applicable to IDE type hard disk drives and Windows XP Home Edition. I have XP Pro.

Is PATA - on the box - the same as IDE?

"Is PATA the same as IDE?"

Yes, broadly speaking. It just means Parallel ATA. IDE refers specifically to the cable interface, while ATA refers to the controller type, but the terms have become interchangeable when talking about hard-drive interfaces.

Thanks I'm releaved it's an IDE. My other 40 gig hard drive said IDE-ATA.
