new graphics card - now Start menu disappeared

  machins 18:25 05 May 2004

I had a problem on windows 98 where the machine would not start properly. Sometimes it froze during start up and when restarted the graphics would be all over the place. I installed new drivers to no avail.
Have now installed a new graphics card and all is OK - except for one thing. The start menu i.e. when you click on start and expect to see the vertical menu for control panel etc is not there - only a black line.
Could someone please help as to where I might have gone wrong?

Try resizing your desktop in you card settings. It is just possible that the desktop is too large for your screen. What hapeens if you use the windows key, next to the Alt button?
