new graphics card

Ive just bought a used graphics card from ebay but after fitting it all I get is a long beep followed by three short ones and a black screen. Does it matter which slot I use? There are no instructions and am told it doesn't need drivers in 98se.

For best results it would be handy if you were to post which card you have bought and what motherboard you are trying to fit it to.

It certainly sounds as if the card isn't being recognised at boot-up. It's either incorrectly installed or you've got a dud.
Graphics cards come in PCI, AGP and PCI-express flavours, from oldest to newest. You need to get the right kind for your motherboard.
It does therefore matter which slot it goes in. Most graphics cards need drivers even with Win XP, so yours is very likely to need them for 98se.

Please post the mobo / card info baldtaco asked you for
